Hi, folks!
I’m actually thrilled to be here in your inbox today, a Friday! I love how a day of the week can spark so much joy! How can we start making TGIT (Thank God It’s Tuesday) a thing? (Maybe a future experiment?)
I’ve been working on a post all week that isn’t quite ready for prime time, so I decided to just come here this morning to say—thank you. Thank you for being here. Beyond saying thank you, I hold a special appreciation in my heart for every one of you who takes time to read these thoughts, giggle if it’s funny, tap the heart or send me an email or comment if it’s made you think or resonated. Sharing life with you on this screen these past few months has been an absolute joy.
Some mornings, I’ve got my life together enough to few moments to journal at the breakfast table (which you can hear me talk about in this podcast). One of the questions I like to journal about is: If I could choose one word to live or remember today, what would it be?
I like this question because it gives me a chance to sit and listen, waiting for an intuitive hit. I usually just write down the first thing that comes to mind because I’m prone to overthinking, and ain’t no mama got time for that in the mornings. The word that came to me the other day was “appreciation.”
That same day, when I opened my meditation app, this quote from Joseph Campbell came up, “The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.”
And I got to thinking about the word “privilege” sitting so close to the word “being.” I wrote in my journal:
Being here now is the privilege of a lifetime.
This week I’ve been asking myself, “What if I saw every moment as an incredible privilege?”
This coffee, bitter, caffeineating—a privilege.
These eyes, perceiving damp morning light, the 72 different shades of green out my window—a privilege.
My fingers, with their lingering cold stiffness from my morning walk—a privilege.
This mind, ever-planning, ever-scanning, ever-cautioning, ever-hypothesizing and creating—a privilege.
This heart, this breath, these toes, these dear humans that school me in love day after day—precious privileges all.
So, whether the word you connect with is gratitude, appreciation, or privilege, I hope you take some moments to experience it over the next few days.
(Even if it’s just a quick TGIF happy dance.)
And it's a privilege to know you!
I appreciate you! And your writing🌷
