I’ve been doing this with tiny moments of awe. Like the snow falling right now like confection’s sugar.

My dogs are often able to get me to experience daily delight because they are so funny and so in my face about it. :)

Morning coffee is usually one I can focus on and truly delight in.

Sometimes I find that taking my camera on a walk with me allows me to settle into delight because I'm more intentionally looking at what's around me.

Not quite the same thing but in the same vein, Gretchen Rubin writes about amplifying our experiences by enjoying all parts: the planning, the doing, and the remembering afterwards. I find that having photos and jotting notes down in a journal etc to remember these little things does magnify the delight.

oooh enjoying all the parts! I really love that! Yeah I think pets are a big source of delight! Your comment about settling into delight by being intentional helps me with a distinction I feel about delight v. happiness. I think sometimes I conflate happiness with outcomes. Like I "get" happiness from some result/lucky happenstance. But delight for me is about an internal experience? That word "intention" is very much folded into it.

I like that distinction. And I think it’s worthwhile to think about all of the different kinds of happiness and delight and the variations … like sometimes the act of doing something doesn’t make us happy but we are very fulfilled or satisfied that we have done it afterwards and that’s a different but related thing.

Delight to me feels like giggles and immersion in the moment and play

A coach I know calls that delayed gratification “earned pleasure”. Fun can definitely be part of delight.
