Very thought provoking and thoughtful post. I just listened to an interview on happiness where the speaker said there is no happy, only happier-ness. Thank you for the reminder that darkness and light can co-exist.
Oooh, happier-ness. I like that! You just reminded me of a post I want to write exploring the word happy. I'm sure I could learn a thing or two over on your Substack!
I was reminded of this Seneca quite while reading your post: “We suffer more often in our imagination than reality.” Yes, yucky things happen and those suck. You know I’ve been there. But also, a lot of us spend time worrying about—and therefore suffering because of—things that might never come to pass.
Yes! Our imaginations are incredibly powerful, for both better and for worse. Kelly Corrigan also retold one of my favorite stories about the man who refused to decide whether all of the things happening to him are "good" or "bad", as how they seem at first is not how they end up... Such a good mindset to aspire to!
This is such an important and good reminder. Thank for sharing, Marika! ❤️

Btw, I am so so sorry about your loss. ❤️
